According to an article posted on wgntv.com, a School District 25 administrator said they were made aware of an allegation regarding the “potential misuse of prescription medication intended for specific student use.” The registered nurse works at Westgate Elementary School in Arlington Heights, IL and has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation by Arlington Heights police.

Parents should be able to rely upon schools to ensure the safety and well-being of their children, especially when it comes to dispensing medication. Failing to have necessary medication dispensed as prescribed can have devastating health consequences. In situations where your child relies on a school health professional to dispense medication prescribed by your child’s physician, insist that the school’s administration share the policies and procedures regarding the chain of supervision when dispensing medication to a minor child. When parents entrust their student’s safety to a school, the school must not violate that trust.
